CYW 053 Migratory Crossing
Six miles west of Pinedale WY (while actually traveling on northbound US-191) we saw this unique overpass. It exists because the last known migration of pronghorns occurs between Grand Teton National Park and the upper Green River Basin in western Wyoming. The migration stretches more than 150 miles, one of the longest mammal migration corridors that remain in North America. Wyoming built eight wildlife crossings along 12 miles of US-191: two overpasses and six underpasses. The pronghorn eventually learned to use the crossing. And some good news for motorists too: a 70 percent reduction in wildlife–vehicle collisions.
