CYW 153 Travertines 1
In geological terms this area is EXTREMELY RAPIDLY changing, with changes to its structure being noticeable within mere months. This is because the area is formed by travertines, a soft, white, chalky mineral. Rain and melted snow seeps into the earth and is quickly warmed by the heat of the partially molten magma chamber deep underground. This hot water rises up through a system of small fissures and also interacts with hot gases charged with carbon dioxide rising up from the magma chamber and a weak carbonic acid solution is formed.
