Yellowstone and Environs – Late Sept / Early Oct 2019
This trip was mostly about seeing Yellowstone. But since that is such an incredibly long drive we threw in stops in Colorado along the way out, and various places in Wyoming on the way back. And of course we caught the Grand Tetons too since they’re right next door to Yellowstone.
All these shots were taken by Ken with his Cannon D-SLR unless otherwise noted. A – V notation means Virginia took it with her Polaroid Point-and-Shoot. A – NOT MINE notation means it’s one filched from the internet but that Ken wanted to include for explanatory reasons. A – P notation means Ken took it with Virginia’s Polaroid Point-and-Shoot.
We departed Derby KS on Monday September 23, 2019 headed for the Hampton Inn + Suites in Golden, CO. That evening we took advantage of the lack of downtown traffic to scope out our next day’s adventure. After that we went to the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall area for dinner. We found fairly deserted, if somewhat scary, parking below some an office building then walked 16th Street for a bit before settling on the Rialto for dinner. It was somewhat disappointing and pricey, but sitting outside and watching the passersby on a wonderful evening compensated somewhat. After dinner we took the free shuttle up to nearly the end of 16th Street and caught a bicycle-rickshaw ride back down to near the car. I guess you’ll just have to believe me on all of this since we left the camera in the hotel room.
