CYW 280 Crowheart Butte
In March 1866 a battle was fought in this vicinity between the Shoshone and Bannock Indians on one side and the Crows on the other. The contest was waged for supremacy of the hunting grounds in the Wind River Reservation. Crowheart Butte was so named because the victorious chief of the Shoshones displayed a Crow Indian's heart on his lance at the war dance after the battle. The VERY long (and fairly boring) drive completed we checked into our next Hampton Inn + Suite in Casper. Dinner was at J’s Pub and Grill which was a quite a busy and good place.
