CYW 235 Cooking Hillside
Perhaps because we knew this was our last major area, or perhaps because it was only just past 1PM, we decided to take the big loop at this area. First up was a spot called Cooking Hillside. Covered by a dense forest until 1987 this hillside changed dramatically after a series of earthquakes struck the area. The trees here withstood the jolts but met their demise when ground temperatures soared to 200F. Roots sizzled in the super-heated soil and trees toppled.
