CYW 167 Yellow Stones at Artist Point
The Yellowstone River cuts the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Here you see the yellow stones that are the source of that name. This shot, taken on the east end of the South Rim Drive, is an area called Artist Point. Many people think this was the spot Thomas Moran painted to inspire Congress in 1872 to create the park. However, Moran's paintings were actually created at the north rim overlook, a spot the current official park maps, call Lookout Point.
